Permaculture and agroecology

The workshop aims to present the concepts of Permaculture as a tool for sustainable education.

What is Permaculture?
Originated in Australia by the end of the 70’s, Permaculture is defined as a permanent culture. This concept was developed by australians David Holmgren and Bill Mollison, and created from the development of ecological, productive, interconnected systems.
Permaculture is characterized by projects that use ecologically healthy methods, that meet basic needs without over exploring or polluting environment.

This concept conjugates scientific knowledge of several fields with ancestral wisdom, by utilizing inherent qualities of plants and animals, combining their natural characteristics with elements that constitute landscape and the existing infrastructure. The aim is that the system stands life development, using as few resources as possible.

Permacultural systems are developed to last as much as possible, with the minimum intervention. Permaculture practitioners also intend to make the most of the local flora, associating trees, herbs, bushes and prairies which feed and protect themselves mutually. Rainwater also finds usage through the installation of caption stations, which make the water to be stored and used for several purposes, as in toilet flush, for example.
