Earth Charter in India ends with guidelines of education for sustainable development11/13/2010 - The international conference "Respect of the ethical framework for a Sustainable World", one of the main events of 10 years of the Earth Charter, in Ahmedabad, India, from 1 to 3 of November, ended scoring guidelines for Rio+20, for the last years of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, which ends in 2014, and the direction of the Earth Charter Initiative for 2010-2020. Organized by the Earth Charter Initiative, Centre for Environment Education - CEE and the ministries of Human Development and the Environment and Forests of India, was among the speakers Steven Rockefeller, president of the International Earth Charter Council, the former prime minister from Netherlands, Ruud Lubbers; Charles Hopkins, coordinator of the UNESCO chair of Education for Sustainable Development, Erna Wiltoelar, ambassador of the United Nations for Millennium Development in Asia-Pacific and Mirian Vilela, executive director of Earth Charter International. The event had over 400 participants from 30 countries, in eight plenary sessions and 10 workshops. The IHT was present at the event and presented its work in two of the workshops. Patricia Abuhab, president, and Guilherme Blauth, IHT projects coordinator, were panelists and presented the proposals of eco-pedagogy and the Earth Charter Game, at the workshops of Formal and Non-Formal Education, along with organizations like the Centre for Environment Education and WWF India. Patricia noted that ecopedagogy unites art, ecology and politics, in order to transform the way people choose to be and being on the planet. About the Game, Guilherme Blauth said that is an educational tool to promote learning and living the principles and values of the Earth Charter, for both, children and adults. "The Earth Charter Game is a cooperative game that encourages understanding of the various principles of ecosystems, as the flow of energy, the association, the natural cycles and the interdependence”, he said.
